ROLL CALL:   Town Clerk Judith Beville

MOMENT OF SILENCE
Mary Ruth Williams (October 31, 1933 – November 29, 2018) was a prominent and distinguished leader in the Town.  Shortly after making her home in Elmsford in 1962, along with her husband and family, Mary, who was a nurse for more than 25 years, became a known and sought-after grassroots organizer, community crusader and vocal advocate for the downtrodden and impoverished in the Elmsford/Fairview communities.  She was involved in several community-based organizations with a focus on challenging unjust policies in the distribution of governmental and private resources to these organizations, served as Co-Founder and longtime Board Member of the Westchester Community Opportunity Program (WestCop), was a member of the Greenburgh Youth Service Organization (YSO), Operation Youth Start and later as a Co-Founder of the Greenburgh Youth Center (today, Theodore D. Young Community Center), and was a Co-Founder of the Union Child Day Care Center (now, Lois Bronz Children’s Center).  As a proven leader, she held several positions, including President of the White Plains/Greenburgh Chapter of the NAACP, was an officer in the Elmsford PTA, and a former President of the Elmsford Civic League.  An entrepreneur, as well, in 1973, Mary founded Bermuda Home Tourist Travel Agency, here in the town, and successfully operated the business for over forty (40) years.  The recipient of numerous awards, acknowledgements and citations, Mary was honored to be inaugurated into the first group of women inducted into the Spirit of Women Archives at Westchester Community College by the American Women of African Heritage (AWAH), in 2015.  We will miss her and the wonderful work she did to improve the lives of many.
