Town of Greenburgh

September 13, 2023

A Meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Greenburgh was held in the Meeting Room, Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Avenue, Greenburgh, New York 10607, at 7:30 PM, Wednesday, September 13, 2023

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

MOMENT OF SILENCE

In memory of Aaron Silver, 92, who passed on August 1. Aaron is survived by his two daughters Michele (Mirza) and Debbie, and three grandchildren, Alison, Anthony and Olivia. Aaron was married for 65 years to Marilyn, who he married in 1953 while on active duty. Aaron was a Master Licensed Plumber who enjoyed and took great pride in being an Army Veteran having served in the Korean War and later spending his time as the Commander of the Jewish War Veterans (Post 191). He was also a member of The Old Guard. In 2013, Aaron Silver, on behalf of the Post, was presented with an American flag from Afghanistan and Operation Enduring Freedom. Aaron also enjoyed playing pinacle and both golfing and bowling. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

In memory of Paula Greenberg Owens, 98, who passed on August 5 after a short battle with illness and a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was predeceased by her husband O.J., her former husband Ellis Greenberg, her beloved son Richard Greenberg, and her cherished sister Ruth Plaks. She is survived by her daughter, Greenburgh Town Councilwoman Ellen Hendrickx, son-in-law John, and granddaughter Kaitlin, and extended family members. She also built an extended family of friends that spanned the country. Paula grew up in Cedarhurst, NY, was incredibly smart (and sassy!), skipping 2 grades to graduate high school at 16. She worked her entire life, always rising to the top (limited in the early years by the social mores of the day, regarding women). She was always esteemed by her colleagues and retained lifelong friendships that accumulated through the many vicissitudes of her life. She was a strong advocate, mentor and often generous to a fault. Paula was a respected interior designer, running her own company, Paula Greenberg & Associates in South Florida (previously called Total Design when she lived in N.Y.), whose unerring talent was prized by real estate developers nationwide as her beautifully designed models inevitably boosted their new home sales exponentially. Most private clients became her lifelong admirers and friends. As a businesswoman, her skills were many. Her most outstanding asset was her sense of commitment and integrity. Most of all, she was passionate, talented and inspired. We mourn with Ellen her loss.

In memory of Carolyn Sheer, 78, long-time resident and former Parks and Recreation Advisory Board member, passed August 15. Carolyn was a member of the Greenburgh Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for 28 years, 1994 - 2022. She was never hesitant to share her opinion, and contribute to making our park system better.

In memory of Stephanie Kavourias, 65, who passed on the morning of Saturday, August 26, after being struck by a hit and run driver while she was walking on the sidewalk near her home on East Hartsdale Avenue. The beloved daughter of Nicholas and Mary Kavourias, and the cherished sister of Elaine Andriotis Chronis, Debbie Kavourias, and the late James and Stamati. Before she retired, Stephanie served as the Executive Director of the Hartsdale Public Parking Authority. Stephanie was the head of her Hartsdale co-op board, a member of the Rotary Club, a board member of the Greenburgh Public Library, a board member of the Lois Bronz Daycare Center, former member of the Greenburgh Planning Board, and friend to so many, including those in need. Stephanie will be remembered for her civic leadership, her community service, her love of animals, and her generous spirit. Stephanie's senseless and violent death has tramatized the Greenburgh community, which mourns with her family, who we offer our sincere condolences and our prayers to have the strength to endure this unimaginable sudden loss.

In memory of Guy Novo, 74, who was a highly respected resident of Greenburgh. Guy was a community leader, a brilliant attorney and a Law School Adjunct Professor at St. John's Law School for many years. He was also a director of the Hartsdale Park Civic Association. His spirit of generosity, selflessness, and boundless charity can be seen in his decades of fundraising for the March of Dimes. Guy made the world a better place. Guy was patriotic, serving in the Army's 3rd Armored Cavalry Division and discharged honorably with rank of Captain. He will be missed.

In memory of the people in Ukraine killed during Russia's invasion and relentless intentional targeted bombing of civilians in apartment buildings, hospitals, train stations, schools and children centers, deliberately targeting utilities used by civilians to leave them without electricity and heat through the brutal winter weather, with mass graves being found after invaded areas have been retaken, and now Russia's aggressive bombing of Ukraine's food-producing infrastructure to disrupt food supplies worldwide, all in Russia's effort to destroy Ukraine and its people, who are forced to fight for their land, their freedom, and general democratic principles. May they rest in peace and peace be restored to Ukraine.

Following the moment of silence there will be a tribute to Stephanie Kavourias, whose family will be in attendance. Anyone who would like to share a moment of reflection about Stephanie, in person or by Zoom, is invited to do so at this time.
