| PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE | ||||||
| MOMENT OF SILENCE In memory of Wayne Lewis, 68, R&B Atlantic Starr founding member and singer, who passed June 5. Lewis sang, played keyboards, and co-wrote the band's biggest hits. Atlantic Starr reached the R&B charts with their No. 2 hit "Circles" in 1982, but it was the 1987 smash "Always" that took them to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. They also scored with "My First Love" and "Secret Lovers." In 1992, "Masterpiece" peaked at No. 3, marking their last major hit. Despite this, Lewis and Atlantic Starr group have continued to tour, with dates scheduled through 2025.. Members of the popular group lived in the vicinity of Old Tarrytown Road between Hillside Avenue and Knollwood Road. In 2017, with members of Atlantic Starr present, the Greenburgh Town Board bestowed the honorary designation of "Atlantic Starr Way" to the roadway. In memory of Eddie Mae Barnes, 86, former Greenburgh Town Councilwoman (1992-2007), Director of Nursing at Rye Hospital Center (1980-2012), and 50-year resident of the Town, who, among many other notable accomplishments, pioneered the Town's Police Community Advisory Commission in the 1990s, fostering increased police-community relationships long before there were calls nationwide for such groups. She was a friend to those who knew her, a mentor and consummate professional, who promoted inclusiveness, affordable housing, fair housing, equal opportunity, human rights, and much more. She never retired and continued to serve on many boards and committees, always willing to help anyone in need. She is a founding member of the Westchester County Pi Iota graduate Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was also a founding member of the Greenburgh/White Plains Chapter of the Westchester Black Women’s Political Caucus along with our 1st African-American Greenburgh Town Clerk and former Legislator Hon. Alfreda Williams. She also served as a Past Countywide President of the WBWPC PC. The flags at town hall are being flown at half-staff in her memory. In memory of those around the world who have perished as victims of war, disease and natural disaster. Our hearts are with all who needlessly suffer. |
